GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE PHYSICS DEPARTMENT
The Physics Department, which admitted its first students in 1994, began offering evening classes in 2002, and in 2005, it introduced a compulsory preparatory class for the day program. The language of instruction is Turkish. The department meticulously manages both undergraduate and graduate programs (both master's and doctoral). In the Physics Department, research and education are conducted in the following fields: Astrophysics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, General Physics, Mathematical Physics, Nuclear Physics, Solid-State Physics, and High Energy and Plasma Physics.
Within the framework of the SOCRATES/ERASMUS programs, our graduate students have the opportunity to conduct thesis research at various universities in Europe. Likewise, graduate students from these universities can come to our department.
The Physics Department provides educational services to both undergraduate and graduate (master's and doctoral) students in the following areas:
There are five educational laboratories and four research laboratories, including the Astrophysics Observatory, Solid-State Physics, Optoelectronics, and the Solar and Space Plasma Group Space Weather Laboratory, which are currently operational. Efforts are ongoing to equip and enrich these laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment and technical materials that meet the requirements of the times.
As part of the university's general physics and elective courses offered in the fall and spring semesters, the Physics Department also provides laboratory work for these courses to the extent possible. The educational laboratories in these areas provide students with a basic and intermediate level of familiarity.
The Ulupınar Observatory, which operates as both an educational and research laboratory at the national and international levels, plays a crucial role in supporting the practical applications of undergraduate-level courses offered in both the department and other units and departments of our university.
As is known, observations conducted at our Ulupınar Observatory, affiliated with the Çanakkale Astrophysics Research Center (ÇAAM), support student thesis work, train personnel, publish scientific papers, and introduce the sky and celestial events to the public and students during public events held in the summer months. Thus, contemporary, open-minded, expert, and technical personnel equipped with the knowledge and experience required by the age are trained.
Furthermore, various public events and informative programs have been organized at the Ulupınar Observatory with the participation of our department's faculty members.
The Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Solar and Space Plasma Group - Space Weather Modeling and Research Laboratory (CASSPLAG-SWMRL) is focused on scientific research in the field of space weather. Its mission is to understand the magnetic activities of the Sun and their effects on near-Earth space.
In addition to these studies, other important active research areas conducted with success and dedication include:
The increasing success of our faculty members, including active participation in international publications, project work, and scientific conferences, in addition to their teaching responsibilities, is a source of pride.
